Macmillan Benefits Advice

Citizens Advice North Somerset and Macmillan Cancer Support are working together to provide welfare benefits advice for people affected by cancer.

Living with cancer can be expensive, your income may go down and expenses may go up.

If you are struggling with the financial impact of cancer, there is help available.

What is the Macmillan Welfare Benefits Advice Service?

  • A local free, confidential advice service for people affected by cancer.
  • We offer impartial independent advice to people living with cancer, their families and carers.
  • We can arrange one-to-one sessions with experienced benefits advisers

How does this differ from general advice?
  • Specialist service in our community for clients & families affected by cancer.
  • We can support people who live in North Somerset and North Sedgemoor (you may be receiving treatment at Weston General or Bristol Hospitals).

How do I get in touch?

  • Call – 01934 836272 (you can also leave a message)
  • Email us – macmillan@nscab.org.uk
  • Ask your Macmillan support worker or cancer nurse specialist to make a referral to us

However you choose to contact us, we will get back in touch with you. We can arrange appointments via phone, home visits, in person at the hospital, or at our Citizens Advice office in Weston.
What we can do

We can support you in a range of ways, including:
  • Advice on benefits & maximising income. Not all benefits are means-tested.
  • Making sense of complicated paperwork & discuss the best options for you.
  • Help with applications for financial support & assist with appeals against benefits decisions if necessary.
  • Help to access other Citizens Advice services & issues such as employment, housing & debt.
  • Apply for a Macmillan Grant or access other charitable support.

Cancer can change the financial circumstances of those affected – work, travel to and from hospital, special dietary requirements, increased heating bills, etc.
